๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐ - the attorneys at law
โโโโโโโ
๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ of the night air brushed past Olivia as she leaned against the railing outside the Mahoney home. Once Olivia and Matthew had successfully re-recruited Nadeem into their cause, a plan was set in motion.
Nadeem's family needed a safe space to stay and so Brett Mahoney had stepped forward, offering for the family to stay with him and his mother. Mrs. Mahoney was a kind soul, a woman that welcomed struggling strangers with open arms, ready to help in any way that she could.
The wolf tried her best to keep her hearing as far away from the argument that stemmed from the room Nadeem's family was now occupying and keep it on the rhythmic sound of Brett's steps as he paced back and forth; she couldn't help but feel sorry for the man. He sounded broken as he tried his best to explain himself to his wife, but the woman wouldn't have it and Olivia couldn't exactly blame her.
The argument slowed to a close, pounding hearts and heavy breaths replacing the angry words and Olivia let out a light sigh before looking over her shoulder as the door to the Mahoney home creaked open, Matthew and Foggy joining the two.
Olivia turned around, offering Foggy a smile as she hopped onto the railing, the cool metal bar sending a chill up her spine as Matt moved to stand beside her.
"Mahoney really stepped up for us. Mrs. M, too." Foggy spoke before inhaling the musty air deeply. "Everyone in the neighborhood wants Fisk gone."
"Foggy," Matt interrupted the blond man, as he leaned back against the railing, a hand coming up behind Olivia's back and resting on the metal bar beside her. "You don't need to talk me into this anymore. I promised we'd do it your way, and we are."
"Good. 'Cause it's gonna work."
"Good. I hope you're right."
"Hey," Olivia spoke, their attention snapping to the previously silent wolf. "It's my plan, of course it's going to work."
The hand resting beside Olivia's thigh moved to pat it a couple of times as Matthew chuckled, "We don't doubt you."
Foggy narrowed his gaze on the action, his brows furrowing before he trailed his eyes up to Olivia's, "Am I-Am I missing something?"
Olivia frowned and directed her whiskey gaze down to Matt's hand that was subconsciously rubbing her thigh. The wolf puffed out her cheeks before a sheepish laugh escaped her. "Right..." Foggy didn't exactly know yet. The last time the wolf had seen the attorney he had been asking her if she had slept with his best friend... and now she had.
"You slept together." Foggy stated, mirth clouding his eyes as a smug grin stretched his lips wide. "Oh my God, I told you it would happen."
"Wait, what?" Matt stuttered.
Olivia shifted on the railing as she watched the grin on the attorney's face continue to grow before directing her words towards Matthew, "You know when we went to see Foggy for the first time? At the bar?" Upon seeing the confused and slow nod from the vigilante she continued with a light chuckle. "He asked me if I'd slept with you."
"Christ, Foggy."
Foggy let out a chortle, his eyes creasing from the intensity of his smile, "That's exactly what Olivia said..." He let out a breath, calming his laughter before eyeing the two once again, "You did though, didn't you?"
"We uh--" Matt paused as his free hand came up to his forehead, smoothing out the lines, unaware of the way that Olivia had taken to biting her lip in order to stop herself from laughing at his stammering.
"We did. Is that what you wanted to hear?" Olivia rolled her eyes, though her grin was still firmly planted on her lips.
"Yes. Yes, it is." The attorney nodded. He was right back at the bar; not only did they sleep with each other, but it did get Matt to pull his head out of his ass.
Matt's eyes rolled upwards as a sigh departed his lips. Trust Foggy to ask those questions. "We're uh, we're together Fog." He clarified, completely aware of the way Foggy had gaped and how Olivia had turned to him in slight surprise.
Olivia wasn't quite sure why, but saying it aloud sounded, odd? Perhaps it was because the pair of them hadn't exactly discussed it with anyone but themselves.
"You're together?" Foggy spoke, his voice dumbfounded. He turned to Olivia with a slow blink. "Well... I can't exactly admit that I didn't see it coming. Because I did. From a mile away."
Olivia snorted, "Oh I'm sure you did."
Her attention became fixated on the door of the Mahoney home as it slowly creaked open, Foggy moved aside and agent Nadeem stepped out. The man looked worse for wear; his hair was unkempt; bags were going beneath his eyes and the argument with his wife had clearly done a number on his mood.
"Are we clear?" The agent spoke, his eyes darting across their faces before looking out into the night, the only thoughts in his mind were that his family could still be in harm's way.
Nadeem joined the three, he sighed tensely as he rubbed his chin, his fingers clenching and unclenching, "So, what now?"
"You're going to testify against Fisk, once you hire us to represent you," Matthew explained as the hand that rested beside Olivia came back to his side, his elbows resting on the railing.
"Represent me?"
"As Nelson and Murdock, attorneys at law."
Olivia couldn't help but grin at the words Foggy spoke and neither could the attorney himself. Her head twisted to the side and she caught the lopsided grin on Matthew's face. They were back.
โโโ
After explaining to Nadeem that Matthew and Foggy were going to represent him and his case against Fisk, Mrs. Mahoney had ushered the group inside, tutting at them for standing out in the cold. She had swiftly procured some of Brett's old clothes; sweaters, shorts, and sweatpants for everyone to sleep in and hastily showed Olivia to a spare bedroom inside of the spacious home.
Olivia had quickly gotten changed, throwing the sweater over her head and rolling the cuffs of the sleeves up so that she could actually use her hands. Her discarded clothes laid neatly in a pile on the old rocking chair that sat in the corner of the jasmine-scented room. She was a little bit of a slob, but this wasn't her space, she had manners at least.
She had settled herself onto the bed, her legs crossed beneath her as small goosebumps rose on her bare legs. She fiddled with her phone and sent texts back and forth to the 'Beacon Hills Group Chat', light bursts of laughter erupting at the constant flow of memes and vine's that Stiles would send whilst Derek would complain and delete him from the group before Peter would add him back just to irritate Derek.
Her head tilted as the door opened, her eyes still locked on the photoshopped picture of Derek that Stiles had sent, her favorite part being the neon-pink spiked collar around his neck. A true masterpiece.
"What are you laughing at?" Matt questioned as he closed the door behind him.
Olivia's eyes fell away from the device in her hands, her finger sliding down the side of the phone to lock it as she allowed her gaze to fall onto Matthew's form as he changed, her eyes following the lines on his abdomen, "I have a group chat with the misfits from home. Stiles is doing the most to annoy my brother."
"You miss them?" The vigilante questioned as he pulled up his sweatpants, his hand reaching out for the shirt Mrs. Mahoney had given him.
"Always. But I wasn't the most independent person, clung to my brother like a koala. I Needed independence and whilst Beacon Hills was filled with supernatural drama, I wanted a little less supernatural and wanted to move to a city."
"Do you like it here?"
"Surprisingly enough, I do. I love the city and I'm more than equipped to live here too."
"Claws and fangs, no need for pepper spray huh?"
"Exactly." She chimed.
Matthew inhaled deeply, a sigh leaving him as he slumped onto the bed beside the wolf. His arm wrapped around her and pulled her until her head was resting on his chest. Even though they both knew what was to come the following day, they felt normal.
They were silent, the rhythmic beating of their hearts and the small puffs of their breathing were the only noises they could hear and it was slowly lulling the wolf to sleep. Matthew's hand that slowly moved to her hair, twisting it between his fingers didn't help the wolf keep her consciousness.
Her eyes closed with a content hum and her hand clutched at his shirt before she forced herself to sit up. Her face was disgruntled and annoyed as she climbed inside the duvet, lifting it up for Matt who joined her.
She leaned over, a hand resting on Matt's cheek as a sleepy smile overtook her face before Matt pulled her down for a soft and lazy kiss; the pair were ready to pass out for the night. Olivia couldn't help it, before she knew it, she had yawned into Matt's lips and the man shook his head in amusement. "I bore you that much?"
Olivia settled back down to her previous position, head on his chest as she pulled the covers closer, "Not at all."
โโโ
"Rise and shine, lovebirds." Foggy's voice split through the morning silence alongside a knock on the bedroom door.
Olivia and Matt groaned in sync, Olivia grabbing a pillow from behind her to launch at the door. "Go away Foggy."
Foggy chuckled to himself outside the room before slowly opening the door, poking his head inside to see the duo cuddled up, Olivia's face buried in Matt's chest whilst Matt slowly cracked his eyes.
"Look at you two." Foggy chimed lightly, a grin making its way to his lips as he watched Olivia rise and turn to him with narrowed eyes, a scowl on her face. "Well now you're awake, get dressed, you're gonna meet Karen at Fogwell's with Nadeem, I'm gonna grab Blake Tower." Foggy spoke as he moved to leave, his head popping back inside the room, "No funny business, okay?"
Olivia groaned as she stretched her arms above her head, her bones clicking and popping like a bowl of Rice Krispies before she faced Matt, her tone sounding like a grumpy child, "Can I hire you to sue him."
Matt chuckled as he sat up and pecked her lips, "Anytime."
โโโ
The couple had gotten themselves ready rather swiftly considering their slow and grumpy start. Olivia, Matthew, and Nadeem had quickly made their way to Fogwell's gym where Karen was waiting for them. As the wolf scanned the gym; it's peeling walls and dusty floors, her eyes landed on the various posters of 'Battlin' Jack Murdock' Matthews father. The gym was run down and upon her arrival, she saw an old advertisement in the window for the place; the owners simply couldn't afford to renovate the place and make it more welcoming.
The thought of the place slowly turning to cobwebs and dust made Olivia feel sorry for Matt, she knew how much the place meant to him, how he would train there or simply come just to feel closer to his father.
The wolf entered first and offered a nod of greeting to Karen as she made her way towards the table where the blonde had begun to unload her bag of papers. Matthew disappeared into another section of the gym and Olivia could hear the clinking of glasses and the sound of running water as he fetched the group something to drink. The wolf glanced down at the chair settled under the table, it was worn and looked uncomfortable, and knowing Matthew and his sensitive ass, he'd swap it out.
She easily lifted the chair with one hand, in her grip it looked to be as light as a feather as she carried it towards the end of the dimly lit room, swapping it for another, less worn one. Nadeem and Karen were talking; the agent bringing up the incident at the church, something Karen swiftly shut down.
Matthew had reached the table by the time Olivia placed the new chair down, smiling slightly as he whispered a small thank you as he settled down on the chair. Olivia took her seat next to the vigilante and opposite Karen as she crossed one leg over the other, leaning back with her hands clasped and resting on her knee.
"All right." Matthew began, "We're gonna get your family safe, Ray, but we can't ask for WITSEC. If Fisk got to the Bureau, he can get to the Marshals Service."
Olivia leaned forward, her hands moving to rest on the table as she spoke, "I actually messaged my brother. He said that he's more than willing to let your family stay with him and my uncle. They're like me, the sheriff is a close friend, and scattered throughout the town are more of our... different friends. Derek owns the apartment complex too, so they'll be protected immensely."
Matthew nodded along, she had told him before they had gone to sleep the night prior that she had messaged her family about the situation and how they were more than willing to help.
Nadeem cleared his throat, a hand going to his hair and pushing it back, "Like-- Like you?"
"We're uh..." Olivia sighed at having to once again explain herself, "My family and I are werewolves. Crazy I know, but we're stronger, faster, and more durable, so your family will be protected. I swear."
Olivia and Karen shared a small look as they cast their gaze towards Nadeem who was still, his eyebrows furrowed. The agent rested his elbows on the table as he dragged his hands down his face. "As long as they're safe..." He gave the woman a tight smile. "Thank you."
"No problem. They're already on their way, when you leave for the courthouse, I'll be taking your family to meet them."
"Uh-- Fisk will be watching my bank accounts--"
"I'll cover it." Olivia smiled reassuringly. Who knew how long his family would be away, she would make certain that his family were not only safe but comfortable too.
Nadeem gave the woman a genuine smile, "Thanks." He let out a breath, eyes darting to his fidgeting hands, "But it might be more than I deserve."
Olivia frowned. Sure, he had done some shitty things but it was clear that he had good intentions, he had a family he wanted to protect and now he was cooperating with them to rectify his mistakes.
Karen looked up from her notes, subconsciously twirling her pen between her fingers, "Look, you... you hurt people. It doesn't have to define you."
Olivia caught the less than subtle, pointed look Karen directed to both herself and towards Matt. Matt clearly knew that the blonde was not only talking about Nadeem, he swiftly cleared his throated and redirected his unfocused gaze towards Nadeem. "You should get ready, Ray. Locker room is through there."
The agent nodded, leaning down to pick up his bag that contained his suit before disappearing deeper into the gym to get presentable for the upcoming court session.
"You're right," Matthew spoke once Nadeem had disappeared. His head tilted towards Karen as she rose from her seat. "His mistakes don't need to define him. Neither do yours."
Karen scoffed as she pulled her coat on and pulled it around herself. "I should get going. I don't wanna miss my window." When neither the wolf nor the devil said a word, she rose a brow, "Really? No, uh, 'It's too dangerous, Karen'?"
Olivia scoffed in amusement, whilst the man beside her chuckled himself. Olivia poured some of the water from the jug into one of the glass cups, taking a gulp before she cleared her throat, "We both know you can handle yourself."
Karen nodded wordlessly before heading towards the door, stopping upon Matt's stammering, "But, you know, Karen, please, be careful."
"Got it."
The blonde pulled up her hood and closed the door behind her, nodding to Olivia as the wolf said a quick goodbye. Olivia brought her hand up to rest it on Matthews, giving it a small pat, "You better go and get ready too."
"You just wanna see me in another suit."
Olivia chuckled as she rose from her seat to sit on the table, facing Matt. "Obviously."
"You're objectifying me," Matt spoke, his serious tone being betrayed by the lopsided grin that pulled at his lips.
Olivia sucked in a breath as she shrugged, "I can't help it." She leaned forward, planting a kiss on his lips before pulling away agonizingly slowly. "Now go and get dressed."
Matt stood straight and planted his hands either side of the wolf's hips, trapping her as he leaned forward, stealing another kiss for himself, "You are evil."
"I know, I--" Her words were cut short by the phone in her back-pocket buzzing. She lifted herself up and slid the device from her pocket; she was getting a call from her brother. "Derek?"
"Nope. It's your favorite uncle." The voice of her uncle, Peter came through, "The abandoned... musty gym? I don't know if you've seen me Olivia, but I don't need a gym"
Olivia chuckled, "Whatever you say. We're inside."
"On our way, little wolf."
Olivia ended the call, her ears perking up to hear the sound of doors slamming shut outside the gym. Olivia placed her phone onto the table, "You ready to meet my family?"
"Getting serious huh?"
"Serious indeed," Peter spoke as he sashayed through the door, drawing a burst of laughter from his niece who darted over to him. "Hello little wolf."
Olivia wrapped her arms around her uncle's neck, the pair hugging for a moment before Derek walked through the door, closing it behind him. Her smile widened as Derek grinned at her and opened his arms. Olivia wasted no time in pulling her older brother into a hug. "I missed you."
"Missed you too, Liv."
Olivia pulled back and walked around Peter as she joined Matt's side. "Uh, Derek, Peter, this is Matt. Matt, meet my werewolf family."
Matt chuckled as he held out a hand, Peter latching on first with his usual level of dramatics. "Nice to meet you.
"And you, Matthew."
Derek rolled his eyes and stepped forward, ignoring the brow raise from Peter, "Ignore him. We do."
Olivia nodded as she bumped Matt lightly. "We really do."
Peter scoffed as he made his way towards the table, taking a seat on the edge. "So, Olivia, my dearest, sweetest baby niece." He grinned at the plain look on Olivia's face, "How have you not scared him off yet?"
Olivia clicked her tongue as she crossed her arms. She wasn't quite sure what else she had been expecting from her uncle. Of course, he would be his usual, annoying self. "Thanks Peter, I love you too."
"Ah..." Matt breathed, "If anything, I'm surprised I haven't scared her off."
"Yeah, you are incredibly high maintenance... but I've learned how to deal with that thanks to Peter."
Peter let out a dramatic gasp, shaking his head as if he was genuinely upset, "Berating me in front of your boyfriend? Olivia, I'm wounded."
"You will be."
โโโ
"We better get going, Foggy'll be here with Blake soon," Olivia muttered as she rose from her seat at the table. She had taken the time to introduce Nadeem to her brother and uncle so that he knew the hands his family's lives would be resting in. He thanked them endlessly.
Derek nodded at his sister as he copied her actions, reaching out a hand to Pull Peter along with him; "Good meeting you." Derek spoke as he nodded towards both Matt and Nadeem. Derek genuinely found himself liking Matthew, the man was easy enough to get along with, he could tell that the vigilante was nervous about the court case and what would happen with Fisk.
But despite that, he had greeted them and spoken with them. Derek could see how much his sister cared for him, the way that even though Matt couldn't see, he would turn towards Olivia each time she spoke, his head slightly twitching with her movement, just as she did with him.
Matt rose from his seat with a small smile pulling at his lips. He held out a hand to shake Derek's, "It's been great meeting the brother and uncle that Olivia constantly talks about. Thank you for doing this."
"It's not a problem, we said we wanted to help."
"Even so."
"I'll be out in two, Der," Olivia called out as her brother and uncle disappeared through the door. She stood from her seat, her eyes flicking to Nadeem who was on the phone with his family. The wolf approached the vigilante, ready to say a quick goodbye; planning to ride with her family and Nadeem's until they reached the outskirts of the city.
"Good luck," Olivia whispered as she kissed Matthew, her hands resting at the back of his neck.
"Thank you." He responded in-between their kisses. He pulled back for a moment, hands resting on her cheeks, "Be careful, okay?"
Olivia felt the corners of her lips twitch upwards. Matt had never really expressed his concern for her physical safety, knowing that she was more than capable and equipped to deal with any trouble that she might encounter. Though the wolf knew she'd be fine, she couldn't help but smile softly at his concern. "I will be. See you later."
"Hear you later."
Olivia paused by the exit and her eyes narrowed as she turned back to face the man. Had he seriously made another blind joke? "You gotta stop that."
"You love it."
"I will neither confirm nor deny." She laughed as her hand wrapped around the metal door handle, twisting it as she let herself out. She closed the door behind her and squinted as a gust of wind immediately blew her hair into her face.
She huffed and made her way towards the sleek, black car on the opposite side of the street. She pulled open the door to the back seats and slid in less than gracefully. She slammed the door and could almost hear Derek's eye twitch at the noise before she buckled herself in.
She expected nothing less from Peter as he turned in his seat, "Well that was adorable."
"I will make Derek crash this car."
"He'll kill you."
"Eh, worth the risk."
